Engrish!

(First, a disclaimer: I am not here to offend anyone, but as an editor, this stuff is BEYOND hilarious to me.)
I may be a latecomer to this party, but has anyone else visited engrish.com? I stumbled upon it tonight, and I ended up scrolling through months and months of pictures, laughing so hard I was crying (and I even brought my cough back--yippee). If you need to waste a few minutes (or maybe an hour, like I did!), head over and check it out. For a taste, see below; my favorite is the reference to "The person of the gynecology flows the operating room." I'm going to giggle myself to bed tonight after that!

Not a Cook

I am not a cook. And while I'll make the occasional dinner, try a new recipe once in awhile, or get excited about some new device that's supposed to cast my meal-making worries aside, it's just not my thing. I grew up eating some of the best food ever (mad props to you, Mom & Dad), and I've been lucky enough to have a husband who's a demon in the kitchen, but it just hasn't rubbed off. (I also have a sister who is quite the foodie if you'd like to check her out).
However, I can't keep leaving dinner to Mike to figure out, especially since he doesn't get home from work until around 6:30 PM AND he's got school work to start on soon after that. So in an effort to broaden my domesticity (at least in the kitchen, mind you), for Christmas I requested (and received--thank you, MiMi!) the Deep Covered Baker from the Pampered Chef. I HEART THIS BAKER. I've made 4 complete dinners in less that a half-hour each (not bad with my little rugrat pulling on my apron strings (yeah right--like I own an apron)), and they were actually YUMMY! That's a big thing for me! Also, I've made the Chocolate Lava Cake in 20 minutes, and I definitely can't find the words in a blog post to tell you how delicious THAT was.
When I find something that works for me, I like to share it with folks. And while I don't have plans to start doing product reviews on this blog, I figured I would put this out there: Here's the link if you're interested in finding out more. Also, I got suckered into co-hosting a party with my sister (she needed to use my house) in a few weeks, so if you decide to order one of these pretty puppies, please let me know. I'd love the credit. :)

The Sinus Infection from Hell

So last Sunday evening, I had to rush home from Angie's house, essentially ending my participation in our semi-annual Mommies' Playdate early, because somehow while watching "Year One" and drinking chardonnay, my throat caught on fire. Seriously. I almost didn't even say goodnight to Mike as I walked in the door because I needed to go to bed. Right. Then. Of course, I felt worse the next morning--a day off alone with Aiden. Luckily, he was content to let Mommy lay on the couch pretty much all afternoon; he even offered me more blankets every so often. So sweet. Tuesday brought no change, and even though I had every ambition of heading back to work on Wednesday, the coughing and ridiculously runny nose killed that plan. So I headed to the doctor & got the sinus infection diagnose (I giggled to myself because I could already see Mike's smug look when he found out HIS diagnosis was correct) & a prescription for antibiotics. I did go back to work on Thursday, but by lunchtime my boss told me I looked/sounded terrible and should probably go home. I didn't argue. I did make it back for a full day yesterday, but I think I was only operating at about 70%. Hopefully these darn meds will kick in soon because my throat still feels awful and the coughing is a killer.
I saw a lot of Aiden this week--no complaints here--and I am just amazed at how much this kid is picking up as far as talking goes. A few of his most recent "Aidenisms:"
--He walked up to me on Monday, wiped a booger on MY finger, and said, "Mommy, boogy--thank you!"
--While getting a diaper change, he tried to pull up his pants without the clean diaper on first. I told him, "You can't go commando!" to which he quickly smiled & replied "I want go mommando, Momma!"
--I showed him some scrapbook pages of his 1st birthday, and without missing a beat, he said excitedly, "Dat's piddy cool, Mom!"
--While pointing to our cat Callie's rear end, he says very animatedly, "Cawwie's butt dirty, Mom!"
--By far my favorite is that he's starting to say "I love you." Granted, it comes out "I buv you," but the sentiment is clearly there.
He's also been obsessed with going to play in the basement now that it's a safe room for him--he asks me if we can "go downstairs" before I've even got his coat on him to leave from daycare. And truth be told, it's cold in that basement, so we really need to get a space heater. But for now, we spend about an hour down there before Mommy needs to head back up & figure out what to do for dinner.
Time to go blow my nose & pop another cough drop--hope everyone else out there is healthier than me.

Home Improvement

I think I mentioned a few months ago that I had decided to get my MBA. Yeah, well, scratch that. There was a reason I swore off ever going to school again once I got my bachelor's; I honestly just don't have it in me anymore to do classwork, however pathetic that makes me. Which is why I am so, so proud of Mike for deciding to go back to school, because it's something he's talked about doing since we met. I'm behind him 100%, even if it means more housework for me!
Case in point: yesterday, Mike needed a few hours to catch up on his homework. We had just received an early birthday/anniversary combo gift from his folks--carpet tiles for our basement (Thank you soooooooo much, Mimi & Grandpa!). Did I sit idley by and wait for Mike to help me install them? Nope, not me. I put them all down myself. All 250+ tiles. (Actually, truth be told, Mike put down two, and his dad put down about 3.) And I couldn't be happier with the result! I still would like to paint some fun stuff on the walls--a Block "O" here, a Script Ohio there--but it's looking so much better. We have an actual usable room now; it's so much cozier down there that I added some of Aiden's toys. He LOVES it. Home improvement, indeed!

In which Aiden dons his pirate hat and attempts to look menacing

Lots of pictures lately--such is the fruit of the boredom brought on by January in Ohio. We bought him this hat in Charleston, S.C. during our trip in October, and he's just now interested in wearing it. All the time.

Hope you're enjoying the personality, 'cause we sure are. :)

Celebrity Spitting Image

I posted this picture of Aiden about a year ago. Whenever it pops up on my screen saver, I'm amazed at just how much he looks like Robin Williams.

Well, it also makes me think of an old picture of myself where I look like Richard Simmons. Luckily, I was able to find that photo at my mom's house this weekend.

What do you think--am I completely off base, or is there some resemblance in each picture? Just sayin'...

Not a fan of snow, BUT...

...at least Aiden finally got to wear his snow suit that I got him on clearance at the end of last season!
