OB Appointment

Well, today I had my OB appointment. It was interesting to say the least! I see my actual doctor every other visit, and today was a visit where I saw the RN. Very nice lady, so I'm totally okay with that. I got a stern look when we discovered I had lost 4 pounds since my last visit, which I shrugged off with "Hey, the same thing happened in my first trimester with Aiden. I'm not worried." But then she told me something that made me sigh--I have low platelets. Again. ARGH. My body is NOT such a fan of being pregnant. Basically, if worst comes to worst, I won't be able to have an epidural, and since I'm planning on a scheduled C-section, they'll have to knock me out completely. Which means I'll fall asleep with a baby in my tummy and wake up with one in my arms. I don't like that. One of my favorite memories is seeing Aiden's bloody, screaming face pop up above that curtain. But I guess it's out of my hands.

After that, the appointment got even more, um, interesting. It took a full 10 minutes for her to find the heartbeat. I tried my best not to freak out as time ticked along and only thing that sounded on the doppler was MY heartbeat. The RN had just said, "Well, we'll try a bit more, and then we'll have to go look on the ultrasound." YIKES! But luckily, with one last swipe, BOOM! There was 2.0, beating away in the 150s. Relieved does not begin to describe how I felt. By that point I was definitely ready to head back to work.

I looked up some old wives' tales on the internet, and apparently heartbeats above 141 mean it's a girl. Which I already think is BS because if I remember right, Aiden was in the 150s as well. But Angie pointed out that I've still got acne, which went away with Aiden, so that means it's a girl. Seven short weeks from today and we'll know for sure. Until then, feel free to vote in the poll to the right; I'm curious as to what you all think. :)

  1. I had acne THE ENTIRE TIME with Finnian. Took a while for the cystic acne on my jawline to go away after he was born. His heartbeat was also in the 150's.

I'm saying girl purely based on odds. I certainly wouldn't mind another nephew, though!!!

  2. I thought E was a girl because of the high heart rate. I believed those dang old wives. Don't do it. :)

I hope your birth works out the way you want it to!

  3. The heart rate thing doesn't mean much. They thought my brother was going to be a girl until he arrived! Luckily my parents didn't put too much stock in anything till he was out...

Do you know when you conceived? I was pretty sure we were pregnant with a boy this time because I know we conceived at the beginning of my "window of opportunity"...

Just a thought! You'll be thrilled with either, I'm sure. And if you have to do the knock-out C-section, I'm sure you'll be a-ok because you and baby will both be safer and healthy. I'll be praying that it doesn't happen that way, though!!!

  4. I have an award for you on my blog. Ok, kind of dorky. But someone gave it to me and it must be passed on. :D
